why i did this

There I am, folks.  In all my extreme close-up, heavily filtered glory.

My name is Emerie, and I wanted to tell you all the story of why I created this blog.

I've always have a blog or online journal of some sort.  From way back in the Xanga days to the glory days of Livejournal, I used online journaling to express myself and get feedback on my day-to-day life.  But lately, I've been very lax.  I had found myself getting pulled into online drama on social networks, and apparently decided that I needed to escape from that by not blogging anymore.  I tried, for a while, to run a less personal blog, Viva La Genesis, but there was something about it that just didn't click with me, and it died.

But here's the thing: I'm a writer, and an opinionated person, and I really, really love blogs.  I just couldn't find my niche, which is really the key to being a successful blogger.

See, I'm a geek.  I love comics and video games and conventions and all kinds of nerdy things.  I'm also a girly girl.  I love pink and glitter and shoes and fashion and makeup.  I'm also an activist.  I am a feminist and a human rights supporter and a mental AND physical health advocate and a straight LGBT ally.  I love fitblrs and healthy living but I also really love ice cream and French fries.  I have SO many interests that just seem to conflict and I just couldn't pick one to blog about.

But then I got to thinking...why do I have to?  There have to be others like me out there who feel a bit torn between sub-cultures, who feel like they are constantly being told that geek girls have to be tomboys, that feminine women don't belong in geek culture, that you can't be a feminist AND love men AND be pro-LGBT rights.  That you can't promote a healthy diet/lifestyle while also enjoying a friggin' cupcake once in a damn while.

Screw that, yes you can, and if you are all or any of those things, you belong here.
